European solidarity

I am not a politician, nor am I economist, but a rowing coach with a backround of running small business. To me the problem in Greece and the whole Europe brings out, not only worry of Greece and my own country´s, but the whole Europe´s future.

I think politicians and bankers are looking at the whole problem from a far too narrow corner. European Union is demanding impossible savings and cuts from Greek people. Politicians are trying to save their credibility in their own countries, but nobody uses common sense. Saving and cutting will kill what is left from Greek economy. Monetary systems and trick´s, and loans don´t work. Banks are trying to make money on Greek crisis. The problem is complex, not only financial, but also human. Politicians are prisoners of their own thinking. The dimension of the problem makes it impossible to understand completely. The issue is beyond capabilities of politicians.

Greek people are fed up for a reason. They have had incompetent regime in the past and are punished for it. It is the fault of Greek citizens that things are the way they are, but as European politicians try to demand and stay firm on their requirements to look good to their own countries, they punish the normal Greek people. Punishing people brings up hatred in Greek towards the "helpers" who seem to make life in Greece very difficult. Humanity towards Greek may help in releasing tension.

In my simple mind I think that we should try to create demand for Greek goods to enhance their export. European Union should give recommendation to buy Greek goods and travel to Greece, and explain what would be the best ways for individuals to support Greece. This way, Greek people and businesses would not be killed by crisis, and Greek government would have time to adjust the pensions and wages to more sustainable level. There is enough of responsible and intelligent people in Europe to actually turn the page forward and give hope of better future for the Greek. We would not even need a big prosentage of the 850 million European Citizens. Campeign would give the Greek a clear sign of solidarity, and help preventing the riots and demolishing the cities and their businesses.

If European Union would put let´s say 0,5 billion into marketing Greek goods and explaining that buying Greek WILL HELP to to save Greek businesses, I believe they would solve the problem in long term, problem that they are now only making worse. I am ashamed of our politicians. They are afraid to face the truth and they are making stupid demands to cut. That will make the Greek economy collapse, and whole Europe to loose as well. Not only in terms of economy, but also humanity, trust and belief in future.

I think that Greece need´s our solidarity, in fact Greek people deserve it. If we want to have healthy Europe, we should really try to support the Greek economy by our consuming behaviour.

Maybe I should have planned this training camp to Greece as well, in the other hand, at the moment is not bad to support Portugal either.
